Story of this variety

 

In Tamil Thooyamallee literally means pure Jasmine.  Since the rice of this variety is white in colour like that of Jasmine it is known by this name.   Details about this rice variety are mentioned in the Siddha medical texts. 

 

 

Special Features

 

It is a fine variety which fetches very good price.  Highly resistant to pest and disease.  The rice of this variety is highly suitable for the South Indian meal and also for making special dishes like Biriyani. It has high fiber content and increases the strength of nerves.

 

 

Season

 

It is normally cultivated during Samba (between 15th July to January 14th).

 

 

Soil Type

 

 

Sandy clay soil is preferred for cultivating this variety.

135 – 140 days

 

 

Height

 

 

It grows to a height of about 125 cm

 

 

Colour and Quality

 

 

The colour of the rice is White and it has fine grains.
