Details about this rice variety are mentioned in Siddha medical texts. This variety is largely preferred by lactating mothers in South Indian villages.
Special Features
This rice has high medicinal value. It improves the immunity power. Rice is given both to pregnant mothers since it has very high calcium content and also to lactating mothers since it is shown to increase lactation. A highly suitable variety for areas which are prone to waterlogging. It is best suited for cultivation in the vicinity of lakes. It is also resistant to Brown plant hopper and Ear head bug. Since the straw is very long it is used as a roofing material.
Season
It is normally cultivated during Samba (between July 15th to January 14th).
Soil Type
Clayey soil is preferred for cultivating this variety.

The colour of the rice is Red and it has coarse grains.
