Story
Kitchili refers to a fruit and probably it derives its name to the resemblance of this fruit. It has a pale orange thin grain (colour resembling that of a kitchili fruit) with a pleasant aroma. It is also called as “Thoppikaran Vidhai” or “Porukku Vidhai”.
Special Features
Consumption of this rice gives a sheen to the body. It is digested very fast. If properly cooked kitchili samba rice is consumed it enables weight gain. This variety is highly suitable for the south Indian meal and also used for making a special dish called “Biriyani”. Highly resistant to pests and diseases.
Season
It is normally cultivated during Samba (between July 15th to January 14th).
Soil TypeSandy clay soil is preferred for cultivating this variety.
