The grains of this variety resemble a round stone (Kallurundai in Tamil) and hence it has the name Kallurandaiyan.
This variety is ideal for preparation of Idli and Dosa (South Indian breakfast dishes).
It is normally cultivated during Samba and Navarai. (July 15th to January 14th and December 15th to March 14th )
Clayey and Sandy clay soil are preferred for cultivating this variety.
It grows upto a height of 126 cms.
Colour and Quality
The colour of the rice is Red and it has coarse rice.
