    These varieties are in use from the period of Chozhas.  It is considered as a rice variety apt for royal guests amongst the Chettiyar community of Tamil Nadu.  The variety is served to very important guests visiting people of this community.  The newlyweds are especially served with this variety. 



    Special Features 


    This variety is able to withstand several natural calamities.  It is able to withstand flood and continuous dew.   The rice has pleasant fragrance and it’s extremely good in taste.  The rice gives strength to the body and is also suitable for pregnant women and aids in pain free delivery.  It is also known to relieve foot pain and can heal Achilles heel. It helps in secretion of insulin in diabetic patients.   





    It is normally cultivated during Samba (between July 15th to January 14th). 



    Soil Type 


    Sandy clay and clayey soil is preferred for cultivating this variety.



    Crop Duration


     150 days





     It grows to a height of about 140 cm



     Colour and Quality


     The colour of the rice is dark brown and it has coarse grains.
