Story
It is believed that during the heavy floods in 1952 this variety was able to withstand the floods and gave a reasonable yield to the farmers. This variety slowly disappeared after the introduction of modern varieties. The variety is also known as Poongar.
Special Features
It gives stamina and health to our body. Provides strength to pregnant women and enables them to have smooth delivery. Pregnant women are advised to have porridge of this variety every day. It has high zinc content and also provides strength to the cartilage. It can grow in saline soils both during droughts and floods.
Season
It is normally cultivated during Navarai (between December 15th to March 14th). It also performs well during other seasons.
Soil Type
Saline, Clayey and Sandy clay soil are preferred for cultivating this variety.

It grows to a height of about 75 cm
Colour and Quality
The colour of the rice is red and it has coarse grains.
